When Pigs Fly

Today we are going to be making the impossible easy when crafting with papers that are commonly rated for laser printing and not ink jet, but for any good crafter the impossible is only just a little bit harder. The ink jet printing “When Pigs Fly” on Stardream Metallic papers is based on a Google search to see what others have tried; for some it was easy, for others it took a little maneuvering.

Rose Quartz, by Stardream Metallics, is a perfect paper for crafting experiments: the paper is metallic and pearlescent, shimmering when you move it. Rose Quartz is lovely medium pink and this card was 105lb cover stock. The color is two sided holds up to a lot of processing; the color runs all the way through the paper.

For the Laser, Inkjet, then Foil refer to the picture. Foiling requires a heavy coat of laser toner followed by an application of foil in the laminator. I did the laser printing first, then foiled it, and then a trip through the ink jet and on one card, foiled again.

For just the Inkjet refer to the picture as well, but it was much lighter than the black laser and still looked good after 3X through the ink jet. The only ink jet printing that showed was what was offset.

I have an Epson Photo R1900 and it printed out the ink jet fine; mine didn’t smear at all, but I did print the cards one at a time and remove them so they didn’t stack up. I didn’t wait much between processes. The ink jet, printed over the laser, was run 3X to cover the black. The ink jet alon, was run 2X, and each run was immediate.

The font is Rosewood Std. and is a pretty open grid. The offset of the ink jet looked great with purple foil, which means the ink jet went through the laminator just fine. I ran it through the laminator 3X. The wording at the bottom has both red and purple color foils, done at the same time.

The Rose Quartz cover stock was manually fed through the laser printer; so was the envelope. Open the flap on the envelope when laminating it, so it doesn’t emboss the pull strip on the flap into the body of the envelope; if you forget, open the flap and laminate it again to press it.

We hope you have fun experimenting with your printers.

Enjoy.
